This is a good foundation course for the beginning student to learn how to warp the loom, understand basic weaving theory and techniques, learn to read a pattern, and beginning pattern drafting. During the course the students will weave a twill sampler and either a scarf or set of four placemats. Knowledge from this course will enable students to continue their study of weaving.
Students should bring a 3-ring 2-inch binder for the 170+ page learning packet.
Tuition: $ 440.00* includes 24-hours of instruction, use of the studio to work on weaving between classes (this is a requirement that students spend a minimum of 3-4 hours of time in the studio between classes doing homework or use a table loom that can be taken home between classes to do homework), learning packet, yarns for twill sampler.
*Second project yarns are additional.

Minimum of 2 students, maximum of 4 students will be in each session due to space in the studio with other students working.
No refund for missed classes. If you need to miss a class, you are welcome to come to a Thursday 6 - 9 PM session to make up the missed class.
You may bring your lunch to eat at the studio.
NOTE: the Studio has a no shoe and no bare feet policy – please bring slippers or socks to wear in class.
Class 1:
- Introduction
- Lecture on parts of the loom and terms
- Wind warp for twill sampler
Class 2:
- Lecture: Planning and designing a project. Warp calculations and weft calculations
- Begin threading loom - reed and heddles
HOMEWORK: finish threading heddles
Class 3:
- Complete threading loom
- Begin weaving
- Watch draw-in (max. 1”)
- Watch ppi
HOMEWORK: Weave patterns 1 through 9
Class 4:
- Check weaving
- Lecture: Pattern Drafting and Drawdowns - Discuss computer programs, parts of the draft, three types of looms - why it is important
- Complete weaving sampler and play with remainder of the warp
Class 5:
- Lecture: Fringes and Fulling Cotton
