In this two-day, hands-on workshop, Mary Mandarino and Susan Alvey will  teach you the ins and outs of rag rug weaving. You’ll learn everything you need to know to successfully and comfortably weave attractive, sturdy rugs that will last for years and years. Participants will weave a sampler of different rag rug techniques; a 4 shaft loom with at least a 14” weaving width is needed.

The workshop will cover:

  • Overview of rug structures
  • Rug shuttles, temples, and other equipment that make rug weaving more successful and easier on the weaver
  • Choosing and preparing materials, from cottons, t-shirts, and wools to fabrics for rags
  • Warping techniques specifically for weaving rugs
  • Dozens of tips for weaving weft-faced rugs
  • Hemming, fringes, and other finishing techniques.

Participants will receive warping instructions upon registration.   Looms are available for participant use.
